The live action of Oceania (Moana in original) has disappointed expectations in the United States and the world at the weekend box office on July 9-12. Prudently postponed on August 19, in Italy, after a presentation at the Giffoni Film Festival, the live action with Dwayne Johnson came out in the USA but has cashed much less than the forecast, with only $43 million in the USA and less than 100 million worldwide. According to analysts the film is likely to lose between 100 and 125 million dollars having cost 250 million net of promotion. Among the reasons of a flop that was not expected, at least not in these proportions, according to deadline there is the fact that the second animated film had just released 2 years ago, perhaps the live action for the public is something that makes the film remember and not something to review immediately.
Box Office Italia 9-12 luglio
Weekend weak at the box office with 3.287.650 euros -34% compared to last year and -26% compared to last week. In the lead remains Minions & Monsters that arrives at 4.8 million euros, perhaps a lower figure of the previewed but at the bottom there are two films practically simultaneously to the cinema, since second is own Toy Story 5 with 458.477 €.
Third place debut for La Casa: the stake of evil with 445 thousand euros, still resists Disclosure Day with a total that reached 4.7 million euros. Seventh position for the Italian comedy Election Day with 76 thousand euros.

Period of the wrong year with too many releases concentrated in a few weeks and a short distance from animated films are among the factors identified for the Moana-Oceania flop. The family audience has thus spread among a Toy Story 5 that has cashed another $18.5 million and Minions & Monsters with 20.5 million. The alternative to family films La Casa: The stake of evil stood at 13.7 million, while after its expansion in 28 cities The Invite of Oliva Wilde earned 5.7 million, representing the alternative to “mature” cinema.
