The NCIS prequel has not convinced the Italians, now too accustomed to seeing the American TV series streaming when they want, so the second season of NCIS: Origins waiting to land on some more convenient platform (between Paramount+ and Sky/NOW) along with the first, arrives on Rai 2 but relegated in the second summer evening after the commissioner Rex, from July 23rd. In the new episodes will continue the story of the years of formation of the future leader of NCIS, Jethro Gibbs, when he moved the first steps as a special agent in the early nineties. The narrative is still entrusted to the voice of Mark Harmon, Gibbs’ historical interpreter in the mother series (and who is executive producer of all series of the franchise), who accompanies the audience in the memories of his past.
Set in the Camp Pendleton Naval Investigative Service office, the series explores not only investigative cases, but also events that have contributed to forging character and principles that make Gibbs one of the most iconic television investigators.

The new season resumes immediately after the final of the previous season, leaving the fate of Lala Dominguez unfinished, remained involved in a serious car accident. While Gibbs and the rest of the team try to deal with the consequences of what happened, new cases test the group led by Mike Franks, called to face increasingly complex threats both professionally and personally.
In the course of the eighteen episodes there are also important developments in Gibbs’ private life, destined to connect more and more the prequel to the events already known by fans of the original series. The season also includes a crossover with NCIS – Anti-crime unit, which sees the return of Mark Harmon as the adult Gibbs.

2×01 The strange team: Lala returns after miraculously saving herself from the accident. The team takes care of a dead marine found hanging on a coyotes trap near a strange community of farmers.
2×02 At any cost: The body of a boy is found on the beach of the Navy, with a strange rope linked to life. The investigations turn to the father and captain of the swimming team.

To tell the story is still Mark Harmon, narrator of the series and executive producer of the project. In the course of the season they also return very beloved characters of the NCIS universe, including a young version of the legal physician Donald “Ducky” Mallard, played by Adam Campbell.
La terza stagione
CBS renewed the series for a third season, coming to the United States in autumn 2026. The main novelty concerns the return of Mark Harmon in front of the camera: after having held the role of narrator and executive producer, the actor will appear in all episodes of the new season as Gibbs of today. His presence will be linked to a mystery set in the present, linked to the events experienced by young Gibbs at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s, creating a narrative thread that will accompany the entire season that will have only 13 episodes. In the U.S. marshes, the series will alternate with NCIS: Sydney (in Italy on Paramount+) to make room for the great novelty of NCIS: New York with LL Cool J that will resume the role of Sam Hanna.
