On August 18, the man who sold his skin to Kaouther Ben Hania arrived. Sam Ali, a young Syrian refugee in Lebanon, wishes to reach Europe to find the woman who loves and accepts the proposal of a famous contemporary artist, who tattoos on his back a Schengen visa transforming his body into a prestigious living work of art to be exhibited in museums. What appears initially as a passport to freedom soon becomes a new form of captivity. Presented in the Horizons section of the Venice 2020 Film Festival and Oscar nominee as best international film, the film uses satire to reflect on the inequalities that regulate global mobility: while works of art and goods can freely cross borders, people, especially when they come from war countries, remain subject to permits, constraints and economic evaluations.
Closes the month, on August 25, The island of the father – Sukkwan Island of Vladimir de Fontenay, adaptation of the work of David Vann. Roy is thirteen years old and a distant relationship with his father Tom, but agrees to spend a long period on a remote island immersed in the Norwegian fjords, hoping to recover the lost time. What should be an adventure capable of rebuilding their bond is progressively transformed into a proof of survival, while the isolation and hardness of the environment bring forth tensions and wounds never faced.
