Thursday, August 6, 2026 on Rai3 will air the film Itaca – The return directed by Uberto Pasolini, with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche as protagonists. The appointment with the film is at 21:15 on Rai3. The film is from 2024, while Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey continues to conquer the Italian and international box office.
Itaca Il Ritorno, la trama
Freely treated by the last songs of Homer’s Odyssey, the film traces the arrival of Odyssey in Itaca after 20 years of absence following the Trojan War, the clash with the claimants to the throne – the Proci – and the reunion with the beloved wife Penelope.
Curiosità sul film
Ralph Fiennes e Juliette Binoche lavorano per la terza volta insieme dopo Cime tempestose (1992) e Il paziente inglese (1996).
Il film è stato girato in Grecia, tra Corfù e il Peloponneso.
La pellicola è stata presentata in anteprima assoluta il 7 settembre 2024 al 49º Toronto International Film Festival, e poi alla Festa del Cinema di Roma.
Anche in questo caso la vicenda è molto umana e poco divina, come nel film di Nolan
Ulisse e Penelope sono più anziani del poema omerico
Antinoo, il capo dei Proci, è l’ultimo a morire per mano di Telemaco, il figlio di Ulisse, mentre nel poema è quest’ultimo ad ucciderlo per primo come esempio per gli altri
Il letto nuziale del Re e della Regina di Itaca non è intagliato in un albero (infatti Penelope l’ha spostato al piano di sopra per struggersi di meno)
Nel film c’è anche il nostro Claudio Santamaria nei panni del fidato servo di corte cieco, Eumeo
Nel poema Anticlea, la madre del protagonista, muore senza rivedere il figlio, e il padre Laerte sopravvive
