The Friday 13th universe returns to the screen with Crystal Lake, a new horror TV series produced by A24 and conceived as a prequel to the film franchise. Ordered by Peacock in the USA, the TV series was purchased by HBO Max for EMEA territories including Italy and will be released by the end of 2026 (so maybe not simultaneously with the USA where the release is scheduled in October).
In the center of the story there is not the adult Jason Voorhees and armed with machete that the public knows, but his mother Pamela Voorhees, interpreted by Linda Cardellini, struggling with pain for the death of the son and with a past that gradually comes back afloat. So Crystal Lake is a prequel to the Friday 13 franchise and allows you to return to the origins of the story of Jason Voorhees, using Pamela’s past to build a larger story about the Crystal Lake community and the circumstances surrounding Jason’s death.
La trama
The story is set in Crystal Lake, almost a year after the tragic death of Jason Voorhees, drowned in the lake of the town. His mother Pam, a single woman, fails to overcome the loss of her son and continues to live immersed in pain. The situation changes when two strangers arrive to investigate Pam’s past. Their presence gives way to a series of disturbing events that upset the community and push the inhabitants of Crystal Lake to question the true identity of the woman.
Set in the universe of one of the most iconic horror franchises ever, Crystal Lake combines psychological drama, provincial and horror intrigues, exploring the mourning of a mother and the dark forces surrounding Crystal Lake.

The project was developed by Brad Caleb Kane, who is creator, screenwriter and showrunner, as well as executive producer. Michael Lennox directed episodes 1–3, Celine Held and Logan George (Caddo Lake, Topside) directed episodes 4–6, while Quyen Tran (The Pitt, Maid) directed episodes 7–8.
The cast is Linda Cardellini, who plays Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother.

Quando esce Crystal Lake
In the United States, Crystal Lake will debut on 15 October 2026 on Peacock. The first season will consist of eight episodes, all available simultaneously on the American platform. The date was confirmed by Peacock and also by A24.
As for Italy, Warner Bros. Discovery acquired the A24 series for distribution in EMEA territories, with the exception of UK and Ireland. Crystal Lake will then arrive exclusively on HBO Max by the end of 2026, but at the moment a precise Italian date has not been communicated.
