Not only the pilot season but also the whole tradition of upfronts has undergone several transformations over recent years, so CBS anticipated the presentation of the season 2026/27 in April compared to the traditional period of May. And strong of a strong, stable, with the best news of the year embodied by Marshals with the premiere that in 28 days reached 28.5 million spectators (only in the USA).
CBS Upfronts 2026/27: la sorpresa
Without any anticipation, without any indiscretions whatsoever, CBS ordered NCIS: New York that will be ready for autumn and will air on Tuesday between NCIS and NCIS Origins with NCIS: Sydney will slip to the midseason by taking the place of Origins that will have a reduced order. NCIS: New York will see the return of LL Cool J historical agent Sam Hanna of Los Angeles spent also in Hawaii. Hanna will return to the New York office where he will collaborate with the crude agent played by Scott Caan with whom he will lead the city team. R. Scott Gemmill and Byron Balasco are working on the TV series with Amy Reisenbach (CBS Entertainment President) who stressed the desire to return to work with LL Cool J and Agent Hanna, avoiding answering questions about why to do another spinoff and not insist on Tony & Ziva.
Il palinsesto
As it was widely expected, CBS will only have one hour comedy on Thursday. Not only that but the network has decided to launch in autumn Eternally Yours created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman already behind Ghosts and with the center a family of vampires, which will be driven by Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Ghosts will return in the course of 2027 but will have two specials from one hour one for Halloween and one for Christmas that will be included in the order from 22 episodes of the season.
Matlock will make room for Cupertino, the new series of Robert and Michelle King, a legal drama that like Matlock or Elsbeth will also have a lighter tone, with Mike Colter as a lawyer who after being betrayed by a Silicon Valley company, joins with a fired lawyer to protect those who have suffered injustice. Sending Matlock back to 2027 appears the right decision for a TV series that has a strongly serialized component but produces less bets than the canons 18/22 making programming from October to May extremely fragmented. The new season could have 13/15 bets and go on air without stops between February and May. Below is the palimpsest:
Monday
20 FBI
21
22 Harlan Coben’s Final Twist
Tuesday
20 NCIS
21 NCIS: New York
22 NCIS: Origins (in 2027 NCIS: Sydney)
Wednesday
20 Survivors
21.30 The Amazing Race
Thursday
20 Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage
20.30 Eternally Yours
21 Elsbeth
22 Cupertino
Friday
20 Sheriff Country
21 Fire Country
22 Boston Blue
Sunday
20 Marshals
21 Tracker
Le novità
NCIS: New York is the unexpected surprise, NCIS’s new spinoff with the return of a veteran like LL Cool J and Scott Caan who for years was in Hawaii Five-0.
Eternally Yours is the family comedy with vampires, created by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman (who will also take care of Ghosts). Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards are Charles and Liz, married vampires who have lived in Seattle for 500 years who find themselves with a daughter who is engaged to a human.
Cupertino is the legal ensemble of Robert and Michelle King already behind The Good Wife, The Good Fight and Elsbeth. The starting point is a Silicon Valley lawyer who refuses to submit to the scam orditated by his former bosses and together with a licensed lawyer (Rachel Keller) decide to represent the exploited by technology companies.
Christos Kalohoridis/CBSDonatello speciale
Einstein is the remake of the homonymous German series, now ordered by CBS for 2 years, with Matthew Gray Gubler as Lewis Einstein bis-nipote of Albert Einstein who has a somewhat disregarded life that makes him end up in trouble and is forced to help a detective (Melissa Fumero) solve complex cases. Having a light tone would seem indicated for Thursday. Is it possible that both Elsbeth and Cupertino have reduced orders alternating with Matlock and Einstein?
