Adam Scott, Robert De Niro and Michelle Monaghan are the protagonists of The Man of Sussurri – The Whisperer Man the thriller film available from August 28 on Netflix and intended to scale the peaks of the Top Ten of the most watched films. In the center a disappearance, a father forced to turn to the man with whom he interrupted the relationships and a serial killer that should now belong to the past. The whisper man brings Alex North’s bestseller to Netflix, turning it into a psychological thriller directed by James Ashcroft.
La trama
Tom Kennedy, portrayed by Adam Scott, is a writer of yellow novels who remained widowed and committed to raising his own son Jake, eight years old. After the death of his wife, Tom decided to move with the child to a new city to try to start over.
The new life, however, lasts little. Jake is abducted, and Tom is forced to ask his father Pete Willis, a former police detective with whom he has not had a long relationship, played by Robert De Niro. The father knows very well the case in which the abduction seems to sink its roots: years before he had contributed to the arrest of Frank Carter, a serial killer nicknamed the Man of the whispers.
The problem is Carter’s already in jail. Yet Jake’s disappearance has disturbing similarities to his old crimes. Tom and Pete must therefore understand whether someone is imitating the killer’s modus operandi, whether there is a hidden bond for years or whether the case that Pete believed he had finally closed was never really resolved.

Adam Scott plays Tom Kennedy, the father looking for his son, while Robert De Niro dresses Pete Willis, the retired detective who arrested the whisperer’s Man. Michelle Monaghan plays Detective Amanda Beck, involved in Jake’s missing investigation. In the cast there are also Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Will Brill and Acston Luca Porto, the latter in the role of little Jake. Among the interpreters is Michael Keaton.
The adaptation is signed by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, the film is produced by AGBO, the company founded by Anthony and Joe Russo, in collaboration with Netflix.

The man of whispers is taken from the homonymous novel by Alex North, published in 2019 and became a New York Times bestseller. The book builds tension around a childish philanthropist tied to the figure of the killer: a seemingly harmless element that becomes increasingly disturbing when children begin to disappear.
Alex North himself has recently talked about the differences between novel and film, explaining that he is satisfied with the changes made by the screenwriters. According to the author, the adaptation maintained the elements that he considered fundamental to his story, while taking some different paths than the book.
Beyond the investigation, the film also focuses on the relationship between Tom and Pete. The two arrive at the beginning of the story from very distant positions, Tom has not seen the father for a long time and does not seem willing to recover the relationship, but Jake’s disappearance makes it impossible to keep the two worlds apart. Jake’s research forces his father and son to cooperate while at the same time leading them to confront the reasons that have driven them away.
