Tonight on TV on Rai 3 Friday 4 September 2025 will air the film Under the leaves, in first sight. A family lunch, mushrooms collected in the woods and a relationship between mother and daughter already marked by old rancours, are the elements present in the movie by François Ozon released in France in 2024 with the original title Quand vient l’automne.
A story set in the countryside of Burgundy, where family relationships and some secrets of the past gradually become the center of the story, combining the plan of human relations with a mystery to be solved. Under the leaves was presented in 2024 at the San Sebastián Festival, where Ozon won the Jury Award for Best Screenplay and Pierre Lottin for Best Actor Not Leading.

Michelle is a pensioner who lives in a small village of Burgundy, her days run quietly between the care of the garden, the kitchen and the time spent with Marie-Claude, her best friend. The moment that awaits with greater enthusiasm is the arrival of his nephew Lucas, who is accompanied by his mother Valérie to spend a few days with his grandmother.
The relationship between Michelle and Valérie is far from simple. Between the two women there are tensions and misunderstandings that emerge during the visit, the situation falls when Valérie eats mushrooms collected by Michelle and feels bad. After the incident, the daughter arrives to suspect that her mother can poison her and decides to bring Lucas with her. Meanwhile, in Michelle’s life and Marie-Claude also returns Vincent, the son of the latter, just out of prison. His return adds a new element to history and helps to change the balances between the characters.

The centre of the story is Hélène Vincent, who plays Michelle, the pensioner of the Burgundy around which events revolve. Josiane Balasko is Marie-Claude, her long-time friend, while Ludivine Sagnier dresses up as Valérie, Michelle’s daughter. They complete the main cast Pierre Lottin, in the role of Vincent, and Garlan Erlos, who plays the young Lucas. Sophie Guillemin, Malik Zidi, Paul Beaurepaire and other performers are featured in the film.
