The Fury of A Man (Wrath of man) is a 2021 film directed by Guy Ritchie and released on the streaming platform of Amazon, Prime Video in Italy and in cinemas in the United States, this evening Tuesday, September 8 on Rai 2 and streaming on RaiPlay. English-American reconstruction of French Le Convoyeur (2004), marks the fourth collaboration between the director and Jason Statham from 1998 to today.
If there’s one thing Guy Ritchie can do, his main field of application, the kind in which he really shines, that’s the action movies. His evidence in this field, in fact, is quite lively and experimental to be interested in the novices of the genre, however, remaining compelling and entertainment for fans.
La furia di un uomo, la trama
What’s going on in this movie? Patrick Hill is a normal man. Lonely and without affection, he has been working for years in trucks carrying cash on behalf of third parties. The company for which he has just begun to work, Fortico, has undergone robberies and wants to make sure his men are trained in the management of such events. Hill will immediately prove himself skillful in this, fainting different and becoming a real star. But something doesn’t fit. His real motivations will soon come afloat with his criminal past, in a vortex of violence.
Un film d’azione al contrario
The result is an atypical action film; anti-climatic. In which the construction of tension culminates in harmless scenes, so much so that the decisive moments for the plot can pass. The one-liners and barracks are wasted in this revenge movie on the contrary (the gang of robbers who the protagonist desperately seeks for the whole film will end up falling into the wolf’s den) who subverts the typical rhythms of the gener, exaggerating with the stainization of the characters. The effect is interesting and saves the film from falling into the clichés, reusing them and subverting them with awareness and great fun.
The same protagonist, living incarnation of the criminal paradigm linked to the family, ruthless with his fellow but of good heart with the weakest, ends up turning on himself, completely unable to achieve his purpose. A sort of ruthless inept that, precisely because of its peculiarity, comes out from the sad schemes and ritriti of the perfect and infallible protagonist, but not entirely (it will still be able to seduce the only female colleague, even if it is not shown as and in what mode).
La decostruzione c’è ma non si vede
The underlying will seems to deconstruct but not too much, taking the viewer in counterfeit and playing with characters and situations. It is a bit missing that enamel that had made The Man from U.N.C.L.E a small masterpiece, but the result is satisfactory and of great entertainment.
