Hamnet – La trama
The story is set in the late 16th century England and puts Agnes Hathaway, played by Jessie Buckley, and young William Shakespeare, played by Paul Mescal.
Agnes is a woman linked to nature and endowed with a particular sensitivity, while William is a teacher who cultivates the dream of becoming a writer. Between the two a relationship is born that leads to the construction of a family and the birth of their children.
However, their lives are shocked by the death of Hamnet, the eleven-year-old son, who took place in 1596. The film follows the consequences of that loss and the different way Agnes and William face pain. For William the tragedy also becomes a matter for writing, until the birth of Hamlet, the masterpiece that bears an almost identical name to that of the lost son. The wonderful scene in which Agnes for the first time at the Globe Theatre sees the Hamlet will remain forever fixed in the mind of those who look. A painful, suffering, angry, loving, joyful scene, a moment in which you live the whole spectrum of possible emotions.
This film is not a conventional Shakespeare biography, Agnes is definitely more protagonist than William, to make things clear. But it is a film about the expression of pain and how each one lives and faces it.
