The 83rd Venice International Film Festival has just ended and, for the occasion, Arvitalia celebrates some iconic titles of the Warner Bros catalogue. Discovery, available in home video, which were rewarded or presented during the 82 editions of the Film Festival.

The VINCITORIES OF THE LEONE D’ORO
Winner of the Golden Lion at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, The next room of Pedro Almodóvar is available in DVD version. Focused on universal themes such as friendship, death, art and old age, it is Almodóvar’s first English-language film.
Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends when they worked with the same magazine. Ingrid became a writer of autobiographical novels, while Martha became a war reporter, and were separated from the circumstances of life. After years of distance, the two meet again in an extreme and strangely loving situation.
Film adaptation of the novel Through the life of Sigrid Nunez, the film is written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, winner of numerous awards, including two Oscar Awards (All about my mother and Speak with her) and two Golden Lions at the Venice Festival (one of which at the career in 2019 and one at Best Film in 2024). The two protagonists, Swinton & Moore, both winners of an Academy Award, play alongside John Turturro, winner of the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival and Best Foreign Actor at the David di Donatello for Barton Fink – It happened in Hollywood, and Alessandro Nivola (The Brutalist, Kraven – the hunter).

VINCITORIES OF VOLPI COP
With the direction of Pedro Almodóvar, the Oscar-nominated film and the Golden Globe is distributed by Arvitalia in DVD format Madres Paralelas. The film stars Penélope Cruz, winner of the Volpi Cup for the best female interpretation at the 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival, and Milena Smit. The film, 23rd by Almodóvar, tells the life of two single women close to childbirth, roommates in the hospital. On the one hand Janis (Cruz), an independent photographer almost forty years old, on the other Ana (Smit), a frightened and traumatized minor. Between the two we create a special bond of deep friendship that continues once we leave the hospital with their respective daughters. However, the time spent together hides dramatic twists that will emerge when, after a few months, their streets will cross again.
The story of Spain is told through the film. In the background of the narrative the search for common pits where the desaparecidos of the Spanish Civil War were buried. In this film Almodóvar recalled numerous actresses who had already collaborated with him, such as Julieta Serrano (an icon of Dolor y gloria) and Rossy de Palma. There are also references to Italy: Penélope Cruz revealed that she was inspired by the great divas of Italian cinema such as Sophia Loren and Anna Magnani for the interpretation of her character.
