By Folly they talked about it even before the release in the halls in February, precisely when the trailer was spread on the net, then it continued to speak after for the success obtained and now after Disney+ on September 24 2026 is in first sight on Rai 1. The similarity in history with that of the well-known Inside Out, Pixar masterpiece, is evident from the first seconds. Two protagonists, many emotions that in the course of the film take in hand the situation.
“to me the idea had come in 2004 […] during the direction of a spot for the canon Rai in which one he and one she were discussing in the car, and we viewers listened out of field their thoughts”, said the director of All Guilty of Freud, Unknown Perfections, The Place, Supereroi.
To many the doubt about the truthfulness of the thing has remained, to say it does not condemn anyone, but net of the likeness – however successful – with Inside Out, Madly fits into the Italian cinematic panorama as a movie that alas, will perhaps be remembered only for the relevance with the animation feature. A romantic comedy with a great cast but, beyond some well written and well orchestrated joke, has really little to tell and does not add much to a genre already well explored by cinema and TV.
The cast, we said: Edoardo Leo, Marco Giallini, Maurizio Lastrico, Rocco Papaleo and Claudio Santamaria in the male universe, Pilar Fogliati, Claudia Pandolfi, Emanuela Fanelli, Vittoria Puccini and Maria Chiara Giannetta in the female one. All standard heads, all first of the class, all of them talented. Yet, a great cast without an original story and a solid script behind it, often not enough.
The film starts very theatrical, too: the first minutes are set, well written but rigid; in the central part it improves, melts, starts to laugh, throws the bases to enter into the life and emotions, in fact, of the two protagonists; on the final falls, choosing not to overstep too some stereotypes, ensuring in comfort zones of good feelings and politically correct. Too bad: with that cast, the premises were there.
Don’t get me wrong: when it comes to streaming (on Disney+ that is a project partner), I suggest you watch it for an evening of lightness and laughter, we’d miss it. Of course, given the prices of cinema, in this case I do not feel like saying the same (in the meantime at the first weekend it has cashed almost 5 million euros). A pleasant and enjoyable comedy, nothing to do with, for example, unknown Perfections, but not even with Inside Out to which Genovesi had thought in 2004, unfortunately.
