The Last Duel is the film on Iris Monday, October 19. Directed by Ridley Scott as protagonists Adam Driver, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Jodie Comer. The film is the adaptation of the 2004 historical novel The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France written by Eric Jage and recounting the events of the last duel of God occurred in France between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris in 1386.
The last duel of God is the last process for the singular tenzone of French history. The two challengers were best friends until de Carrouges’ wife said she was raped by Le Gris who was a man’s shield. This singular tenzone process allowed to solve a problem straight through a duel to the last blood. The script was written by Nicole Holofcener with Ben Affleck and Matt Demon. The film was filmed between Dordogne and Burgundy in France part of the scenes were made in Ireland.

The Norman knight Jean de Carrouges, brave in the battlefield as little as I return to court rules, discovers that his wife Marguerite was victim of violence by the one who believed a friend, namely Jacques Le Gris. Originally, the screenwriters of the project Matt Damon and Ben Affleck should have played the two main roles in the film. However, Adam Driver was chosen to take the lead role from Affleck, who instead chose a secondary role. The reason for change is to avoid a programming conflict with the production of Adrian Lyne’s Deep Water (2022) where Affleck plays the leading role.
