A future April, TV film on the Pizzolungo massacre with Francesco Montanari

On the occasion of the day of legality celebrated on 23 May, Thursday 21 May on Rai 1 and streaming on RaiPlay arrives the TV film A Future April, directed by Riccardo Donna and dedicated to the memory of the Pizzolungo massacre. The TV film is freely inspired by the literary work “Sola con te in una futuro Aprile” by Margherita Asta and Michela Gargiulo published by Fandango Libri.

Reading the book “I was impressed by the intensity of the point of view: the vision of a 11-year-old girl, to whom the mafia removes her mother and her brothers. An inexorable, deep, raw pain. Margherita grows and with her also the awareness that fighting against the mob can be, telling her own life and her testimony” explained the director.

What can forever bind an espous 11-year-old girl from Trapani to an untransigent and fearful judge of Trento, transferred to Trapani to continue the investigation of Judge Ciaccio Montalto, killed by the Mafia? Apparently nothing, except fate.

Un futuro aprile la trama

2 April 1985: two cars, one behind the other, travel on the road connecting Pizzolungo to Trapani. In one there is Barbara Asta with the two twin sons of seven years, in the other the judge Carlo Palermo, transferred to the prosecutor of Trapani only a few days before. The cars side by side for a moment and at that moment the car parked on the side of the road explodes by sowing death: the judge Palermo is injured, while Barbara and her twins do not survive the attack. Margherita Asta, 11 years old, is saved because he is at school, but he loses his mother and his brothers in that mafia massacre.

The father, Nunzio, has been following for years the prosecutor’s investigation and the trials that accuse senders and executors, without identifying the real offenders. Initially convinced that the tragedy is the judge’s fault, Margherita grows between pain and search for a justice that never seems to come. After the death of his father, he became a civil part in a new process that finally led to the condemnation of the senders. Only then decides to meet Carlo Palermo, survived but devastated by guilt: their meeting becomes a human and intense moment of reconciliation and rebirth.
