It arrives on Rai 3 Friday, May 22, the film Iddu – L’ultimo Padrino con Toni Servillo e Elio Germano, directed by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, who also sign the screenplay and freely inspired by the latitude of Matteo Messina Denaro.
The film was presented in competition at 81a Venice International Film Art Exhibition, has cashed over 2 million euros released last October and arrives on Sky on 31 March. Protagonists of Iddu are Matteo (Elio Germano) and the fictional character of Catello Palumbo (Toni Servillo), modeled on judiciary acts and biographical data of public domain that concern the story of the famous mafia boss.
The story draws inspiration from the correspondence between Messina Denaro and a former mayor of his country of origin, in charge of by the Italian secret services to create an epistolary correspondence with the latitante capomafia in order to stanarlo. Black comedy, tragic and ridiculous, that develops from the different tone of the story of the two protagonists: that of the exuberant Catello, leaps, wordio, comic mask, grotesque, sublime, tender in his solar amorality; the most claustrophobic one that explores the infantile and pathological narcissism of Matthew.
Iddu – The last godfather is the final chapter of the trilogy of Grassadonia and Piazza started with Salvo and continued with Sicilian Ghost Story: a thematic exploration, articulated in three films of three different cinematic genres, which re-elaborates the sense and feelings generated by the experience of life in Sicily in the 1980s and 1990s of the directors themselves, years of the claustrophobic domain of the mafia and present.
Iddu – L’ultimo padrino, la sinossi
Sicily, early 2000s. After a few years in prison for mafia, Catello, a long-term politician, lost everything. When the Italian Secret Service asks him for help in capturing his son Matteo, the last great mob latizer in circulation, Catello takes the opportunity to get back into play. A smart man with a hundred masks, a tireless illusionist who transforms truth into lies and lies into truth, Catello gives life to a unique as unlikely exchange of epistolary with the latitante, whose emotional vacuum tries to take advantage. A gamble that with one of the most wanted criminals in the world poses a certain risk..
