On Monday, August 24, Iris will air the film “La Signora dello Zoo di Warsaw”, directed by Niki Caro. A film that tells a very important story about the extermination of Jews in Nazi concentration camps. The film in Italy has cashed around 935 thousand euros, and about 26 million dollars worldwide. The film is drawn from a story actually told in Diane Ackerman’s book, entitled “The Jews of the Warsaw Zoo”.
La Signora dello zoo di Varsavia, la trama
A story of courage and humanity set in Poland since 1939. Antonina and Jan, owners of the zoological garden of Warsaw, after they were ordered to close the zoo and liquidate all their animals, wonder about their future and the fate of the Jews locked up in the ghetto in desperate conditions. They therefore decide to keep the zoo in business by turning it into a pig farm that acts as a cover for the salvation of the Jews.
And before the beginning of the deportations, thanks to the coverage of the new activity in the zoo, the two spouses took hundreds of Jews from the ghetto and, making them pass through the passages behind the cages of animals, hide them in the cellars of their own house until they can escape provided with false documents.
