What if at some point in life the hardest thing was to keep being the person everyone expects? It is from this existential crisis that part Finalement – History of a trumpet that falls in love with a piano, the sentimental comedy directed by the veteran of French cinema Claude Lelouch on air tonight on TV Friday 28 August at 21:15 on Rai 3.
Presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival 2024, the film stars Kad Merad and mixes comedy, music and travel on the road, following a man who decides to radically change life after a health problem. Finalement brings some of Claude Lelouch’s recurring themes to the screen. The French director builds this time a story that puts together personal crises, casual encounters and music, following a protagonist who must first lose his certainties to understand what he really wants.
The result is a sentimental comedy with musical elements, built as a journey through France and through the different possibilities that life can still offer to Lino.
La trama
Lino, played by Kad Merad, is a successful lawyer accustomed to having everything under control. He has a brilliant career, a family and a seemingly stable life, but something within him begins to break. After a health problem, Lino loses the ability to lie, to others but especially to himself. What might seem a simple consequence of the disease becomes a sort of liberation for him: for the first time he can no longer hide what he thinks and what he feels.
He decides to abandon his existence and leave without a precise goal. His journey takes him through France, from Normandy to Provence, where he meets very different people and lives increasingly distant from the ordered life he had led to that moment.
During the journey Lino also approaches music and rediscovers a passion he had left aside: playing the trumpet. The encounter with a woman further contributes to questioning her certainties and leads it to a new idea of happiness.
