Divorce is not the end of history, but the beginning of a new game of power. Empress Risposata is the new Korean fantasy romance of Disney+, live action adaptation of the homonymous NAVER WEBTOON that reached almost 3 billion views. The series, consisting of 10 bets, will debut on the platform on 4 November 2026.
At the center there will be Navier, Empress of the Kingdom of the East, interpreted by Shin Mina, whose marriage with the Emperor Sovieshu crumbles when he falls in love with a fugitive slave. The series is set in an imperial fantasy universe and combines romance, court intrigues and power struggles.
La trama
Navier is a respected Empress, intelligent and accustomed to exercise his role with balance. His marriage to Sovieshu, Emperor of the Kingdom of the East, however, seems destined to change when in the life of the sovereign enters Rashta, a fugitive slave whose man falls in love with.
The relationship between the two rulers deteriorates rapidly and Sovieshu decides to ask for divorce. Navier, however, does not intend to give up his dignity or allow the end of marriage to also mean the loss of his position. Therefore accept the Emperor’s request on one condition: to marry in second marriage Heinrey, Crown Prince of the rival Kingdom of the West. What might seem like a simple answer to a divorce becomes a choice capable of changing the balances between two kingdoms.
An important element to frame the series is its setting, because Empress Risposata does not tell a story really happened or set in Korea of a certain historical period, its world is imaginary and has European and fantastic influences. This allows the series to use typical elements of romantic drama and short story without being bound to rebuild a precise historical period.
Il cast
The cast brings together some of the best known names of contemporary Korean drama. Shin Mina plays Empress Navier, while Ju Jihoon dresses up as Emperor Sovieshu. Lee Jongsuk is Heinrey, the Crown Prince of the West Kingdom, while Lee Seyoung plays Rashta, the fugitive slave that upsets the balance of the court.
The cast also includes Lee Bong-ryun, Choi Dae-hoon, Park Ho-san, Jung Young-joo, Lee Jun-hyuk, Kang Han-na and Mitch Craig.

Before arriving on the screen, Empress Risposata had a long editorial history. The project was created by a web novel written by Alphatart, later adapted into a very successful webtoon published by NAVER. The popularity of the work has reached an international audience thanks to translations in numerous languages, with 3 billion views according to data spread by Disney, .
The television adaptation is signed by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol, while Cho Suwon’s director, already behind series such as Pinocchio and Still 17.
