Finbar Murphy chose to leave violence behind and build a quiet life in a small village on the Irish coast, but that past knocks back to his door when a group of IRA terrorists arrives in the country. It is the premise of L’ultima vendetta, thriller del 2023 directed by Robert Lorenz and starring Liam Neeson, on Tuesday, September 1 at 21:20 on Rai 2.
The last revenge, the original title In the Land of Saints and Sinners, was presented at the 80th Venice International Film Festival in the Horizons section. The director is by Robert Lorenz, already author of A Man over the Law, another film starring Liam Neeson, the screenplay is signed by Terry Loane and Mark Michael McNally.
La trama
It’s 1974, full of the Troubles. In the small coastal village of Glencolmcille, in Donegal, Finbar Murphy leads a seemingly quiet life. He is a reserved man, but behind this ordinary existence he hides a very different past: for years he has been a hit man at the service of crime.
Finbar wants to end with that life. The arrival of Doireann McCann, however, changes everything. The woman leads a group of IRA terrorists who take refuge in the village after an attack in Belfast. When Finbar discovers that one of the gang’s men assaulted a local girl, he is faced with a dilemma: continue to protect his identity and keep his profile low or intervene to defend the community.
The situation degenerates when Doireann and his men begin to sow violence in the country. Finbar understands that in order to protect the people to whom he is attached he will have to go back to using those skills he had tried to forget.

Playing Finbar Murphy is Liam Neeson, flanked by Kerry Condon as Doireann McCann. There are also Ciarán Hinds, Jack Gleeson, Colm Meaney, Sarah Greene, Desmond Eastwood, Conor MacNeill, Seamus O’Hara and Niamh Cusack.
The film then brings together several Irish performers around Neeson, with Kerry Condon as the antagonist and Jack Gleeson, known primarily for Game of Thrones, as Kevin Lynch. The film is an international co-production and lasts for 106 minutes.
