Venice awards Netflix, Lee Chang-Dong’s Possible Love film after winning the Silver Lion Jury Grand Prix will be on Netflix for all subscribers on November 6. The film also won the FIPRESCI Prize, awarded by the International Film Printing Federation to the best film in competition at the festival. The jury motivated the recognition by defining the film “a stratified work and the perfect rhythm, made of subtle games of power, which explores exploitation, social class, disillusionment, love, desire, and mastery and ethics of narrative”.
After these successes he will continue his journey in international festivals with the North American preview in the Special Presentations section of the 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, the Main Slate section of the 64th edition of the New York Film Festival, and the British preview at the BFI London Film Festival, with other stages coming… Not only but he is the candidate of South Korea at the next Oscars.
“I have made this film to question what cinema can and must do in times like these, and I welcome this award as a signal that you want me to keep asking these questions,” said Chang-Dong accepting the prize in Venice. In Possible Love director Lee returns to work with Jeon Do-yeon, after their first collaboration in “Secret Sunshine”, a film that earned her the Best Female Interpretation Award in Cannes in 2007. The film also stars Sul Kyung-gu (Peppermint Candy, Oasis), who returns to collaborate with Lee, along with Zo In-sung (Hope, Moving) and Cho Yeo-jeong (Parasite, Hidden Face).

La trama
Possible Love tells the story of two married couples facing different paths and hidden desires. Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon) leads a quiet life together with her husband Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu), who lost his job, and their young son Cheol, until a funeral brings them into contact with Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jeong), a documentary filmmaker who is making a film about the dismissed workers, and with her husband Sang-woo (Zo In-sung). The agile lifestyle of this couple is clearly contrasted with theirs, and when Mi-ok agrees to be recovered he approaches Ye-ji, finding himself, despite him, attracted by the impenetrable Sang-woo. When their worlds collide, cracks begin to emerge in their everyday lives.
