The film arrives at first sight Rai and tells the journey of two children who, from post-war Naples, cross the Atlantic in search of a new life. Naples-New York is a new subject written by Federico Fellini and Tullio Pinelli, dating back to the late 1940s. Salvatores has transformed that material into a story set in the post-war period, keeping in the center the journey of two children and the relationship with an imagined America as a place of chance. The script is by Salvatores himself. The film is produced by Paco Cinematografica with Rai Cinema and lasts about two hours.
La trama di Napoli-New York
The story is set in 1949, in a Naples still marked by the consequences of war and poverty. Carmine and Celestina are two children trying to move forward helping each other. Celestina would like to reach her older sister, who emigrated to the United States some time before.
One night the two manage to climb clandestinely on a ship to New York. Together with other Italian emigrants, they arrive in a city completely different from what they know. Once landed, they begin the search for Celestina’s sister and face a series of meetings and difficulties that will change their path.
The journey also becomes a story about the Italian emigration and the comparison between post-war Naples and America seen through the eyes of two children.
