Christian Wolff (Affleck) is an autistic mathematician who has more affinity with numbers than with people. He works undercover in a study of a small provincial city, as a freelance accountant for some of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the world.
Put under pressure from Ray King (J.K. Simmons), head of the anti-crime division of the Department of the Treasury, Christian assumes the task of a new client: a state-of-the-art robotics company in which an accounting officer (Anna Kendrick) discovered a cluster in the accounts of millions of dollars. As soon as Christian identifies the falsifications of the documents approaching the truth, the number of victims begins to increase.
